Prophets and Conspirators in Pre-Revolutionary Russia
Published in Paperback by Transaction Pub (June, 1998)
Author: Adam Bruno in the Name of the People Ulam
Average review score:

raising the axes
Adam Bruno's book, IN THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE (subtitled Prophets and Conspirators in Pre-Revolutionary Russia) is an excellent account of the revolutionary movement in the mid to late 19th century in Russia. The material it covers is essential knowlege for anyone studing either 19th century Russian literature, the Russian Revolution, or Revolutionaries in general. These 'prophets', as Ulam calls them, spoke of ideas not dealt with in our one country untill the 1960's. It is a book which sheds light on the past while at the same time raising questions about contemperary intellectualism.

Protodynastic Egypt
Published in Paperback by Shire Publications (March, 1999)
Authors: Barbara Adams and Krzysztof Cialowicz
Average review score:

great intro to a lesser-known Egyptian historical period
Written by two of the leading experts in the field of early Ancient Egyptian history and prehistory, this book surveys the current theories surrounding the state formation process. It details the major sites which have been excavated and are under investigation, as well as the theorised contact with the inhabitants of the Western Desert and the Near East. It is a typical well written excellent little Shire book, with much compact information and many illustrations. All in all, it is an excellent source of information about Protodynastic Egypt for scholars and interested laypeople.

Publish It Not: The Middle East Cover-Up
Published in Paperback by Longman Publishing Group (January, 1975)
Authors: Michael Adams and Christopher Paget Mayhew
Average review score:

Excellent, A Different Perspective
The media tends to distort the information. Many people cannot tell what is true and what is not. Many Arabs and Jews ask questions about how the state of Israel was created. They ask questions about who supported its creation, the role of the US, UK, and what the Arabs did to resist. They also ask about what happened in Palestine before and after 1948.

This book was written by two British men back in 1975, a journalist and a British MP, describe what happened behind closed doors before and after 1948 in the British Labour Party and parliment, role of the media, the US, and the Arab involvement. They expose hidden pacts, secrets, media bias, and much more.

This book is an excellent history book. If you have a strong desire to learn the history of the Israeli-Arab conflict, then read this book. Hard to find, therefore, you have to buy it used. But it is worth buying it in any condition you find it in.

Delicious!
This is a delightful book that encourages even reluctant cooks to try these delectable breads. Directions are clear and easy to follow, illustrations are witty. I wish I was her daughter -- I am!! I live in the mountains of Colorado and functioned as her high-altitutde test kitchen. Buy this book!! Even if I wasn't related to the author I would LOVE THIS BOOK

Quiller Meridian
Published in Audio Cassette by Books on Tape (January, 1993)
Author: Adam Hall
Average review score:

The espionovelists' novelist; the spies' spy
How Elleston Trevor (aka Adam Hall)would have laughed - so folks who bought this shamefully out of print classic also bought *JK Rowling*? Well, why not and God bless them and God bless the technology that can crunch the stats to come up with that one.

Hall's lone ferret of a spy is one of the great creations of fiction and I think this is the latest one to be essayed by Hollywood to fit on the screen. It'll be the usual fiasco, of course, because Hall's muscular poetry and Quiller's inner dialog simply won't translate and, anyway, it'll have to be dumbed so far down that it might as well be some hack ghoster providing the screenplay, which is probably what it will be.

Of course, you can't actually *buy* any Quillers these days because the publishers are incapable to keeping them in print, but that should end when the movie comes out and Travolta or whoever they get struts his stuff and tries to get the shotokan right. (I hope it is Travolta because Elleston piled such contempt on the Ron Hubbard lot in his lifetime that it'd be poetic justice for one of them to come an artistic cropper trying to take on Hall's elegant storyline and real flesh-n-blood hero.)

Raven's Children
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (June, 1992)
Author: Richard Adams Carey
Average review score:

Good enough for me to write the author and tell him so.
This book is lyrical, yet full of the stark reality of life in Bush Alaska--and in this case, the raw bleakness and strange loveliness found uniquely on the Lower Kuskokwim River. (The memories I have of that place are stored wherever one keeps suppressed rememberances of lonely places in the mind.) I wonder if the spring floods still carry the dump down through the middle of town at Bethel

Average review score:

Almost As Funny as Seeing Them In Person
The Reduced Shakespeare Company is one of the funniest entertainment we have around. They have a great mix of intelligent and slapstick comedy, and never take themselves too seriously. They are hilarous to see live and to listen to!

The Reincarnation
Published in Paperback by Hatherleigh Pr (November, 1998)
Authors: Stephen Churchill and Adam Rheinhart
Average review score:

A Real X-File?
I thought this book was excellent. The style was intelligent; the story within the realm of extreme possibility. Over all, a gripping tale, made all the more chilling by the suggestion that this is a record of an actual experience.
